Ribbon Cutting Celebration: Appalachia Provisions Café Officially Opens at WVSDB

Today, the Hampshire County Chamber of Commerce had the honor of celebrating the official ribbon cutting for the newly opened Appalachia Provisions Café on the campus of the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (WVSDB) in Romney. This exciting milestone marks the launch of a truly special space—one that blends community, education, and opportunity under one roof.

More than just a café, Appalachia Provisions is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) simulated workplace designed to give Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) and Blind/Low Vision (VI) students real-world, hands-on experience in food service, customer service, and business operations. Under the guidance of Chef Brian Olden, students are gaining valuable career readiness skills while serving up delicious food and beverages to the community.

The café is now open to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM and is conveniently accessible from the parking lot near the Brannon Building on the WVSDB campus at 301 E. Main Street, Romney, WV.

We were proud to join WVSDB staff, students, families, community members, and representatives from the West Virginia Department of Education in celebrating this meaningful addition to our local business and education landscape. It was inspiring to see the talent, confidence, and professionalism of the students as they officially cut the ribbon and welcomed guests into their new space.

Moments like these are exactly why the Chamber is committed to supporting business growth, workforce development, and educational partnerships throughout Hampshire County. We are grateful to be part of milestones that shape the future of our community—one student, one business, and one opportunity at a time.
